Adam & Eve’s adult store national expansion
plans are meeting resistance in its first planned location outside
North Carolina. Nassau County lawyer Gary Baker, while admitting
that it may be impossible to stop the store, is nonetheless attempting
to organize a resistance. Baker said that he plans to have someone
photograph each person who walks in the store, and place the photos
on a Web site and in local newspapers.
“Adam & Eve’s lawyers have grossly misjudged the determination
of the people in this community,” said Baker. “If the county tries
to stop Adam & Eve from opening on [highway] A1A, it will be sued
and most likely will lose,” said Michael Parnell, Editor of Florida
News-Leader, taking a different view in an editorial. “We cannot
afford the waste of taxpayer money.” Parnell also warned of the
legal prowess of Adam & Eve’s Philip D. Harvey. “Harvey is a forceful
advocate for sexual pleasure and the freedom to enjoy it,” said
Parnell. “He is not afraid to fight for what he believes is right.”
