Fighting
Harsh Adult
Entertainment Regulations
The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) and the Association of Club
Executives (ACE) members are mobilizing to fight a state bill
(SB 32) which proposes a wide range of harsh adult entertainment
regulations. The bill is currently on a fast track through the
Missouri Senate, headed for a Judiciary Committee hearing.
Among the
numerous provisions in this bill Is a “sin” tax requiring adult
businesses to pay a $5 admission tax for each person entering
the business, the funds to be deposited into the “State Schools
Money Fund."
The bill
also creates a 20% sales tax for adult businesses. SB 32 requires
employees to be over 21. It bans exhibition of sexually explicit
videos and live entertainment in viewing rooms. The bill prohibits
nudity. Semi-nudity is allowed only if a person is an employee
who does not touch customers and remains a specified distance
away from patrons and behind a railing.
Under the
bill, all adult business must close between 10 PM and 10 AM
and no adult business can sell liquor. Free Speech Coalition
member Dick Snow asks for assistance in notifying Missouri adult
businesses of this threat and urging them to get involved in
this critical legislative fight.
