Bills State For
Sex With Patient
There of course
is the issue of a doctor who should know better than to have sex
with a patient (even though it was consensual)... but to be so
"cocky" to bill the state for his services. Wow! It
would have been too darn ethical to refer her to another physician
and have consensual sex with the woman he became amorous with
after an appropriate waiting period. Now he is paying the price
of a big ethical no no!
Dr. Randall
J. Smith, 50 of Oregon City will spend two months in jail after
he advised a patient that having sex with him would help her pelvic
pain, then billed the Oregon Health Plan for his time during their
sessions. He
must also perform 200 hours of community service and pay $1,105
in fines as part of a plea agreement.
This "doctor
of love" was sentenced to 18 months probation by Multnomah
County Circuit Judge Julie Frantz and voluntarily surrendered
his medical license to the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners.
Oregon Health
Plan was reimbursed about $5,000 to cover the cost of the claims.
