Senate Repeals Gay
Marriage Ban
The
Democrat controlled Senate voted overwhelmingly to rescind the
1913 statute that forbids nonresidents from marrying in Massachusetts
if the union would not be legal in their home state. The
law was originally enacted as a way to bar the recognition of
interracial marriages. The statue may not remain overturned
for long as it has some conservative hoops to pass.
