while reducing associated distress. However, the drug is incapable
of addressing the “complex reasons” for low sex drive.
A 55-year-old,
British, furniture restorer, Michael Ford, was always experimenting
with drinks made from different plants and one day he tried an
infusion from his winter-flowering heather. He said: "The effect
was almost immediate. I had to stay in my potting shed for an
hour or so before I could decently walk down the street."
He then contacted
the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh, famous for their work with
the heather family, to see if they could offer an explanation.
They could. Botanist Alan Bennell said: "This first surfaced when
East European chemists reported finding a Viagra-type chemical
in the floral tissues of winter-flowering heaths.
They were
able to isolate measurable amounts of material that is an analogue
of the active principle in Viagra." Winter-flowering heather,
he explained, belongs to the genus Erica, a close relative of
our own native heather. He said: "As yet, the active ingredient
has not been found in these British forms, but it is proving to
be most concentrated in many of the widely available hybrids sold
as winter-flowering heather in garden centers. Particularly potent
are forms of Erica carnea, the Alpine heather, whose range extends
into the Balkans. "The work of these biochemists and physiologists
- much of it disrupted and lost during the ravages of war - is
now coming to light."
From the limited
amount of information available, it is suggested the Viagra-analogue
is best extracted by steeping the detached small flowers in neat
alcohol. An infusion of about 20g of flowers in 100ml of fluid
liberates the active principle. A quality full-strength vodka
(at least 40 per cent) is also effective. Mr. Bennell added: "There
is some confusion whether oral consumption or topical application
is more effective."
Husband
Kills Wife's Lover; Wife Charged April

Darrell Roberson
came home from a card game late one night to find his wife rolling
around with another man in a pickup truck in the driveway. Caught
in the act with her lover, Tracy Roberson panicked in her fear
of being caught in her adulterous tryst, so she cried rape.
However, just
the night before she sent her lover LaSalle a text message that
read in part, "Hi friend, come see me please! I need to feel your
warm embrace!" according to court papers. LaSalle apparently agreed.
When her husband
discovered the two, his wife was clad in a robe and underwear.
When Tracy Roberson cried that she was being raped, LaSalle tried
to drive away and her husband drew the gun he happened to be carrying
and fired several shots at the truck.
Her husband
pulled a gun and killed the other man with a shot to the head.
A grand jury handed up a manslaughter indictment against the wife,
not the husband. The grand jury declined to charge the husband
with murder, the charge on which he was arrested by police.
Mark Osler,
a Baylor University law school professor and a former federal
prosecutor, said the grand jurors evidently put themselves in
the husband's place: "I can see one of them saying, 'I would have
shot the guy, too. I was just protecting my wife.'
While it seems
reasonable that a man would want to protect his wife, the man
was driving away when shot... that is not protecting anyone, that
is attacking someone with vengeance. Seems there ought to be some
level of responsibility there.

Utah Supreme
Court justices are still struggling around the concept of how
a 13-year-old girl can be both an offender and a victim for the
same act - in this case, having consensual sex with her 12-year-old
boyfriend.
The Ogden,
Utah, girl was put in this odd position because she was found
guilty of violating a state law that prohibits sex with someone
under age 14. She also was the victim in the case against her
boyfriend, who was found guilty of the same violation by engaging
in sexual activity with her.
Randall Richards,
the girl's attorney, argued that prosecuting children under a
law meant to protect them is illogical. "A child (victim) cannot
also be a perpetrator in the exact same act," Richards said. The
Utah Supreme Court will issue a ruling later.

Male students
at Michigan University called police after a young woman walked
into their house and started masturbating. Fraternity members
were eating in the dining room at the time. The woman told them
her name was Melissa and she was a student at Eastern Michigan
University. She was between 20 and 30 years old, had short brown
hair and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
No one saw
her enter the house but the front door had been left propped open
because it was being repaired. Fraternity members asked the woman
to leave the house, but she refused and continued masturbating
for about half an hour. When members asked the woman if she was
all right, she casually replied that she was fine.
At one point
she was talking on her mobile phone. She walked out wearing only
a thigh-length black coat after a fraternity member called the
police. By the time police arrived, minutes later, she had already
left.
Blinders
For Road Advertisements April

In Sacramento,
CA there is a well-known pickup truck with homemade billboards
on every side. It parks in front of the Capitol building and typically
features anti-homosexual and anti-abortion statements with accompanying
pictures.
One of the
pictures is a very graphic and grizzly display of a dismembered
aborted fetus. Droves of very young school children, who visit
the Capitol almost daily, may freely look upon the images of the
corpse.
Assemblyman
Paul Cook (R-Yucaipa) introduced legislation, AB 1067, to require
businesses to use opaque blinders to cover printed materials which
may feature nudity or any arousing content on the cover, if a
minor may somehow catch a glimpse of the image.
However, Assemblyman
Cook does not want to have the traveling billboard of a (naked)
fetus covered-up. Instead, he wants to protect children from seeing
even a breast on the cover of a magazine at a newsstand.
If passed
into law, that would mean any business owner who allowed these
magazines to be displayed could be held criminally liable if they
did not have the lower 2/3 of the publication covered.
In August,
2006, Baby Talk magazine featured on its cover a side view of
a breast with an attentive baby latched onto it. The main article
was, "why women don't nurse longer", and perhaps had the yet-to-be
conceived AB 1067 in mind as an example of underlying values.
Does the state
really consider a picture of a woman nourishing her baby to be
harmful matter? Yes, according to the puritanical Assemblyman
Cook. In fact, breasts are apparently so dangerous that the first
policy committee to hear this legislation will be the Assembly
Committee on Public Safety, on Tuesday, April 10th.

Swap With Secret Military Information April
2007
Three Japanese
naval officers who swapped pornography on their computers triggered
a scandal over a possible leak of sensitive data linked to Japan's
missile defense system.
The officers
told police they accidentally copied the confidential data onto
their computer's hard disk when copying porn from a computer belonging
to a crew member from another destroyer.
Any defense
leak could potentially affect Japan's biggest ally, the United
States, whose navy also uses the Aegis system. Spokesmen for the
Defense Ministry and local police declined to comment on the investigation.
