The
Joy Of Soy By Lisa S. Lawless, Ph.D.
Holistic Wisdom C.E.O.
Soy
is an incredible food, in that it makes tasty dishes and is good
for you. Soy is an excellent source of dietary fiber and protein.
It is rich in vitamin B6, which is important in building amino
acids and in the formation of neurotransmitters. Furthermore,
soy is often recommended as an alternative for meat in low-fat
diets.
However,
one of soy's greatest advantages may lie in it being a rich source
of isoflavones - plant hormones that have been linked to several
health benefits. Asia's low rate of heart disease may very well
be linked to their soy-based diet.
The
leading cause of death in the United States is coronary heart
disease, linked to high levels of LDL or "bad" cholesterol. In
recent clinical trials, men and women with high LDL levels were
able to reduce them by consuming soy over an extended period.
In October 2000, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) announced
that certain foods containing soy will be able to claim that they
may help reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. (To qualify,
the food must contain at least 6.25 grams of soy per serving,
one- quarter of the daily recommended serving of 25 grams).
Other
healthy benefits of soy-
~
Isoflavones found in soy may help prevent bone loss, therefore
lowering the risk of osteoporosis.
~
A soy diet may also play a role in the reduced incidence of menopausal
symptoms among women - in fact, it is thought that plant hormones
will eventually take the place of conventional estrogen-replacement
therapy.
~
Soy isoflavones have been credited with reducing the rates of
certain types of cancer. For example, there is some evidence that
eating soy may reduce your risk of developing breast cancer.
~ Soy isoflavones were the primary ingredients in a "smart bomb"
drug that the University of Minnesota scientists believe hold
the potential to cure childhood leukemia.
~
The Cancer Research Center of Hawaii indicates that consumption
of soy products may help reduce the risk of uterine cancer. Soy
is a wonderful way to get nutrition needs met, but also to prevent
disease. To try some a yummy soy bean snack- buy them raw, in
their shells, and steam them. When the beans inside are soft,
put a little salt on the outside shells, and pop them open to
get the beans. Tasty!

Massage By Lisa S. Lawless, Ph.D.
Holistic Wisdom C.E.O.
People
who have regular massage often report sleeping improvement, more
regular bowel movements, larger handwriting, and increased effectiveness
of medications. Massage also improves circulation and nutrition
of the joints and can increase joint range of motion and flexibility.
Massage
therapist use a variety of passive motion exercises and resisted
stretches, which allows for your body's rigidity and stiffness
to be gently challenged as your body is reacquainted with healthy
and normal movements. In addition to stretching the muscles, moving
the body stimulates the production of synovial fluid in the joints
(for healthy joint lubrication and pain-free movement) and re-sets
the proprioceptors (neurons that sense where the joint is in space)
in those joints that are stretched.
So
now you know that it not only feels good, but it is really good
for you. Go treat yourself to a massage today!
Psychic
Imagination By Lisa S. Lawless, Ph.D.
Holistic Wisdom C.E.O.
Both
clairvoyant psychic ability and imagination originate in the same
place. They come from your sixth chakra (third eye).
We
all have psychic ability to varying degrees. Clairvoyance, like
any of the psychic sense is greatly enhanced by how much you use
your imagination.
The
ability to visualize in your mind, provides practice for sensing
the psychic energy that you receive all of the time. When you
become more skilled at it, you will be better able to translate
what you are seeing.
Psychic
ability is not logical or analytical, it is metaphysical. Often,
I have found that most people are unable to access their intuition
effectively when they become overly concerned with being logical,
and require only tangible concepts to work with.
For
example, if a psychic impression came into your mind, and it doesn't
make sense to you logically, you might dismiss it before you get
a chance to understand what it means. However, a person with a
good imagination can often make connections to the meanings of
things.
This
is not to say that logic isn't helpful in developing your intuition.
Once you start seeing a picture and start to understand what is
going on there, your logical mind can help you fill in the details.
But use your logic too soon or often, and you may invalidate your
psychic impressions.
Begin
to strengthen your imagination and visualization skills by using
some of the suggestions below-
1)
Practice closing your eyes and noticing what images float through
your mind's eye. Don't analyze or judge them, just "be" with them.
While some mental pictures are just clutter from your day, others
may need your attention. Write down any strong impressions, and
ask yourself what they may be about.
2)
Practice looking at an object, then visualize it exactly in your
mind in great detail. This will help you build your clairvoyant
muscles.
3)
Practice The Imagination Game: Go out and imagine what the person
in the car next to you is talking about with their passenger.
Imagine what your boss ate for dinner last night. Imagine what
the car in front of you is going to do next. Make everyday things
into a means for you to practice your abilities. The word "imagine"
is a wonderful one because there is no fear associated with it.
It is not scary to say that you want to imagine something because
there is no risk or negative association connected to it. When
you feel more comfortable you can begin to recognize it as the
information that you are "tuning into" Intuition, ESP, Psychic
Ability.
Not
only will these techniques allow you to become better skilled
in using your intuitive abilities, but they are wonderful for
enhancing your creativity, and sense of spontaneity.
