Weight Indicates Infidelity?

A new study says men who are overweight are less likely to stray than their thinner counterparts - but not through lack of opportunity. The German survey found that overweight men are more faithful because they had less inclination towards risky sex.

Market researcher group Forsa say men of average weight are more than twice as likely to be unfaithful as fatter men. Overweight men are not only less likely to cheat on their partners, but are also less likely to visit brothels or call sex hotlines.

One thousand German men between the ages of 31 and 69 were questioned by the researchers. They found 23% of men in the "normal" weight category admitted to being interested in a bit on the side, while just 11% in the "fat" category said they would cheat on their wives or girlfriends.

A further 19 per cent of men considered "moderately overweight" said they would have an affair. The researchers say that it is not a lack of opportunity that make heavy men a less risky option, but simply that their wish for risky sex decreases. Sascha Rusch, an expert for men's health, said fat men were not less sexually active than their slimmer counterparts but they "seldom rise to the challenge of a sexual adventure".

Clarksville, Indiana has adopted an ordinance regulating adult-oriented businesses, and will begin licensing both sex-oriented businesses and their employees. The ordinance was designed to control activities within adult businesses and who may be employed in them. "We know we can't pass an ordinance to get rid of this sort of activity, but we can control what they do, and how they do it," said Town Council President John Minta.

The ordinance requires sexually-oriented businesses to obtain an annual license, as well as individuals working in such establishments. A first-year business license will cost $250, while subsequent licenses are $125 annually. Initial employee licenses will cost $100, with a $50 annual renewal. Employees will receive licenses that include a photograph of them. The ordinance requires that the licenses be posted conspicuously, near the entrance.

Average Foreplay

Durex Condoms surveys more than 350,000 people from 41 countries around the world about their sexual behavior. From vibrator use to who gets crowned the sexiest female celebrity in the world, the folks at Durex seem to have all bases covered in their Global Sex Survey.

Most interesting, perhaps, is the question of how much time couples across the world dedicate to foreplay. Here's what the survey found:

On average, people across the world spend 19.7 minutes on foreplay, with men claiming to spend 20.2 minutes and women spending 18.8 minutes.

The younger age groups take the longest -- 21.6 minutes for 16- to 20-year-olds and 19.1 minutes for 21- to 24-year-olds, compared to 17.3 minutes for people over 55.

The British spend the most time on foreplay (22.5 minutes), followed closely by the Germans (22.2), the Irish (21.8) and the Spanish (21.7). Thais spend the least amount of time (11.5 minutes).

Also ranking pretty low were Hong Kong (14.2) and the Vietnamese (15.2).

The United States ranked No. 17 out of 41 countries. The survey says Americans spend an average of 19.7 minutes on pre-intercourse canoodling.

Scalia Asked If Sodomizes Wife

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (above) spoke Tuesday night at NYU's Vanderbilt Hall, "The room was packed with some 300 students and there were many protesters outside because of Scalia's vitriolic dissent last year in the case that overturned the Texas law against gay sex," our source reports.

Reporting Adolescent Sex

A mandatory reporting rule could harm adolescents. The NASW (The National Association of Social Workers) have joined other organizations in filing a friend-of-the-court brief challenging the state attorney general's opinion requiring all mandated reporters of child abuse in the state to report all sexual activity by minors as abuse.

The case is being heard in the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. Characterizing the attorney general's interpretation of the state's reporting statute as "a dramatic departure from the traditional use and intent of mandatory reporting," the brief argues that the interpretation "will have precisely the opposite effect" of the goal of protecting Kansas adolescents from sexual abuse. "Because the Attorney General's interpretation undermines (if not eliminates) confidentiality in communications between professionals and adolescents, it necessarily harms the adolescents it claims to protect," the brief states.

The brief states, will send two important signals to adolescents: "first, that the State will have unlimited access to their communications regarding sexual behavior, and second, that any professional in whom an adolescent would likely confide cannot be trusted to keep private communications regarding sexual behavior."

"The attorney general's interpretation detrimentally affects the health of adolescents in Kansas in two distinct ways," the brief states. "First, some adolescents, knowing that their sexual behavior will be reported to the state, will avoid or delay seeking services, and second, some adolescents who seek services despite the reporting requirement will not be honest in discussing their sexual behavior with professionals." The brief also notes a concern that adolescents will not fully communicate with mental health professionals.

If the District Court's decision is reversed and the attorney general's interpretation enforced, the unintended consequence will be that the health of adolescents in Kansas, the group the Reporting Statute intends to protect, will be compromised."

Breast Implant Debate

Thirteen years after most use of silicone-gel breast implants was banned, the government reopened emotional debate last week on whether to lift the restrictions.

In an extraordinary day long hearing, dozens of women, many in tears, told federal health advisers of pain and crippling health problems when silicone leaked from broken implants into their breasts and beyond.

Others, angry at their difficulty in getting what they called the most natural-feeling implant to rebuild cancer-ravaged breasts or to enlarge small ones, urged the Food and Drug Administration to lift its near-ban.

Silicone-gel breast implants began selling in 1962, before the FDA required proof that all medical devices are safe and effective. Complaints that they broke and caused illnesses began in the late 1980s, and in 1992 the FDA banned gel implants except for patients with breast cancer or a few other conditions, who could get them by enrolling in strictly controlled research studies.

The implants largely have been exonerated of causing such serious or chronic illnesses as cancer or lupus. But breaks and resulting silicone leakage, as well as painful scar tissue and other local complications, remain in question - and the FDA told manufacturers last year that durability questions in particular must be settled before it will lift the near-ban.

About 264,000 breast enlargements and 63,000 breast reconstructions were performed last year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Taxing Brothels

Nevada lawmakers are considering a bill that would tax the state's 28 legal brothels, the only regulated bordellos in the United States.

The brothels pay local taxes and license fees but have never been taxed by the state, which under the bill would impose a 10 percent tax on drinks and food and collect a $2 fee on each customer.

The Nevada Brothel Association backs the bill, but not all bordello owners think it is a good idea. Dennis Hof, owner of Moonlite BunnyRanch in Carson City, where the HBO "Cathouse" television show is filmed, said a bordello tax would be "ridiculous." "I'm paying big license fees," Hof said of the fees he pays to operate two bordellos in Lyon County. "If you had two McDonald's and sell 50 million hamburgers a year, it would cost you $300.

I sell a little bit of sex and it costs me $200,000 a year. That's enough." The bill's sponsor, Democratic Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie, could not be immediately be reached for contact. Greg Bortolin, a spokesman for Republican Gov. Kenny Guinn, said the governor did not support the tax bill because he did not want to break with the tradition of managing legalized prostitution at the local level in rural counties and because he opposed new taxes.

Nevada lawmakers are also taking up a bill that would impose a 10 percent tax on strip clubs. The general counsel of the America Civil Liberties Union of Nevada has warned lawmakers the bill, if passed, would be overturned by the courts since stripping is constitutionally protected free expression and cannot be singled out for a tax.

Strip Tax

A Nevada bill that would impose a 10 percent tax on strip club dancing will be struck down in court if lawmakers pass it, an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer said. "You can not have a special tax aimed at First Amendment activity based on content," said Allen Lichtenstein, general counsel of the ACLU of Nevada.

"Adult entertainment, which is protected by the First Amendment, is being targeted to bear the burden of taxes where other businesses are not," Lichtenstein said, referring to the bill. "To single out a particular business based on content and tax it with a special tax is unconstitutional."

Lichtenstein testified on against the bill, which is under review by the state Senate's taxation committee. The committee has until Friday to approve the bill, which Lichtenstein said does not stand a chance if subjected to a judicial review. "If it gets passed, it will be challenged and the courts will throw it out," he predicted, noting that stripping is constitutionally protected free expression.

Mail Bomb For Penis Surgery

A man allegedly unhappy with penile-enlargement surgery he underwent mailed explosives to a Chicago plastic surgeon, according to a federal grand jury indictment.

Blake R. Steidler, 24, allegedly made an explosive device that included a model-rocket engine igniter inside a jewelry box, the federal indictment said.

Steidler drove to North Bloomfield, Ohio, on Feb. 10 and mailed the box, but then drive home to Lancaster County, called 911, and turned himself in, according to the indictment.

East Cocalico Township Police, who received the 911 call, apprehended Steidler and turned him over to federal authorities, who were holding him in Philadelphia, officials said.

Man Masturbates In Court

A Brooklyn man unhappy with the sentence he received for masturbating in public, repeated the crime before the assistant municipal court clerk on closed circuit TV last week, police said.

Reggie Frank, 34, had just been sentenced over closed circuit television on April 4 to six months in the Middlesex County Detention Center for masturbating in the women’s lingerie section of the Lord & Taylor at Woodbridge Center Mall, when he decided to begin doing what landed him in jail in the first place, police said.

“The way the system works with closed circuit TV is they can see and talk to him up here at Woodbridge,” Capt. Charles Rowinski said. “If they plead guilty, the judge can sentence him. If they plead not guilty, they have to come before the judge in person.”

The court clerk alleged Frank had been acting agitated and was using profanity during the process, according to the police report. “The judge sentenced him to six months and apparently the defendant thought it should be less,” Rowinski said. After sentencing, Frank reappeared on camera while exposing his genitals and masturbating, police said.

Nude Pics On Cars

Mesa police arrested a man caught in the act of placing Polaroid photos of his genitals on vehicles. The department has linked the man to about 30 reports of such photos and indecent exposure since December 1999.

Last week, detectives saw a man placing a Polaroid photo on a woman’s vehicle that was in a parking lot at Gilbert Road and McKellips in Mesa. He was immediately taken into custody. During an interview, 41-year-old Jeffery Howard Pritchert admitted to indecently exposing himself twice and also admitted to placing up to 100 photos of his genitals on women’s vehicles.

Sex With Murder Suspect

The state Supreme Court on announced a two-year suspension for a lawyer caught having jail house sex with a triple-murder defendant she was representing.

Theresa Olson’s suspension begins Friday; she must undergo a psychological evaluation before she can be reinstated. Earlier, Olson and the state Bar Association had agreed to a one-year suspension, but the high court rejected the bar’s recommendation. In 2002, guards outside a King County Jail conference room saw Olson with her dress pulled up and her client, Sebastian Burns, standing behind her with his pants down.

At the time of the encounter, Olson was 43 and married; Burns was 26. Olson was removed from the case, and Burns was given new counsel. He was convicted last year, along with a friend, of beating the friend’s sister and parents to death at their Bellevue home in 1994.

Special Breasts

A Lovelock, Nevada, high school teacher was arrested on suspicion of exposing her breasts to students and possessing marijuana.

Lori Ann Robinson, 35, a special education teacher at Pershing High School, remained in jail Sunday in lieu of $537,211 bail. “We’ve got a couple of complaints she had bared her breasts to several different students,” said Steve Von Rumpf, a detective with the Nevada Division of Public Safety.

Von Rumpf declined to discuss specifics, but said the alleged incidents occurred over the last two years. She also was booked on suspicion that she failed to report child abuse, conspired to commit sexual assault and intimidated or dissuaded a witness. Pershing High Principal Anita Fisk said the teacher’s arrest shocked the community, but students and staff were carrying on.
