Such
is the ideal so often portrayed in film or print. The reality
is that very few couples ever experience simultaneous orgasms
during intercourse. There are a number of reasons for this.
Although statistics vary from study to study, and change over
time, it is generally thought that at 65 percent of all sexually
active women in the Western World have never experienced an
orgasm during vaginal intercourse, simultaneous or otherwise.
Although
vaginal stimulation might be pleasurable, the walls of the vagina
have few nerve endings. The old controversy surrounding vaginal
versus clitoral orgasms was settled in the late '70s and early
'80s. The vast majority of orgasmic women need direct clitoral
stimulation in order to climax. The majority of positions of
intercourse, however, do not afford women with sufficient stimulation
of this small, but very sensitive, organ.
To
further complicate matters, approximately 10 percent of all
sexually active women have yet to experience even their first
orgasm, irrespective of the site of stimulation.
Orgasms
come much easier for most men than for most women, and that
means that the male sexual response is also responsible, in
part, for the difficulty in reaching simultaneous orgasms. Women
typically need steady clitoral stimulation for a longer period
of time than men need steady penile stimulation. Despite the
desire of many men to be able to trust rapidly and steadily
for 30 minutes, the average young male, with unbroken thrusting,
will ejaculate in from 2 to 3 minutes! This is hardly enough
time for most women to make it!
As
mentioned, there is also a problem with the usual coital positions
couple use. In the male superior position, a man is likely to
make long rapid thrusts. If he is low between his partner's
legs, every time he pulls back he will lose contact with her
clitoris. On the return stroke, he makes a straight shot into
her vaginal canal, the opening of which is an inch or more below
the desired target. Putting the woman's ankles on his shoulders
will roll her hips up and back and move her clitoris ever further
away from the thrusting male member. Thrusting in the rear entry
position ("doggie style") misses the clitoris completely.
One
of the obvious things about the male sexual response is that
the more active he is, the quicker he is likely to ejaculate.
If a couple assumes that his hard fast trusting is the key to
her reaching orgasm during intercourse, they will frustrate
each other. The harder he tries to please her, the faster he
will orgasm. She is likely to accuse him of coming to fast and
he is probably going to blame her for being too slow!
Just
as soon as someone writes about the "majority" or men or women,
there will be readers who will disagree. OK then, if you are
a woman who reliably reaches orgasms in every conceivable coital
position, this article is not for you. If you are a man who
can thrust rapidly and nonstop for 30 minutes, you might not
want to read this. However, the majority of men are too fast
and the majority of women would probably not make it even if
their partner could thrust for an hour.
Issues
of coital positions are dealt with in detail in two of the books
by Dr. Birch. In Male Sexual Endurance Dr. Birch suggests positions
in which men tend to last longer. Along with coauthor and sex
therapist Cynthia Ruberg, Dr. Birch looks at each position in
Pathways to Pleasure and critiques them in terms of clitoral
stimulation. The bad news is that men ejaculate most rapidly
and women are least likely to orgasm in the most commonly used
position... "missionary style." Ways to fine tune the typically
used positions are recommended in these books and goes beyond
the scope of this article.
The
question at hand is, who can a couple increase the likelihood
of experiencing simultaneous orgasms?
Let's
review:
~
There are some women who do not orgasm at all. ~ Most orgasmic women do not orgasm
during intercourse at all, let alone in synch
with their partner's. ~ Most women need direct clitoral
stimulation in order to experience orgasm. ~ Most
men ejaculate in a short period of time than is required for
women. ~ The more actively a man is thrusting,
the quicker he is likely to come. ~ Most positions of intercourse
work well for a man, but are ineffective in bringing
a woman to climax.
Here
is my proposal... and my rationale. Many women who have difficulty
reaching orgasm can do so with the stimulation of a vibrator.
In fact, many women did not experience their first orgasm until
the tried a vibrator. Indeed, many women have discovered they
can have multiple orgasms with vibrator stimulation. My point:
Vibrators are effective!
One of the nicest positions of intercourse in which a man can
relax (and last longer) is the "scissors position." A photograph
of this position reveals that it is also a nice position in
which a woman can hold a vibrator on her clitoris! Thus, the
scissors position wins the grand prize in my book when it comes
to increasing the likelihood of realizing that ideal... simultaneous
orgasm.
In
this position the man can lie there and watch his partner's
face and body. He can reach over and caress her breasts. More
importantly, however, he can thrust a little, relax a little,
move a little, and just soak a little... delaying his orgasm
as his partner builds toward hers. He will quickly learn the
physical signs of his partner reaching her peak, at which time
he can being thrusting rapidly. Most men can easily catch up,
and they can orgasm together.
Simultaneous
orgasms during intercourse are not everyone's goal, for it is
also fun to take turns. Other couples express the need for simultaneous
orgasms though mutual oral stimulation. There will also be female
readers who do not want to use a vibrator and male readers who
feel threatened by a toy. However, if simultaneous orgasms during
intercourse are your goal, the use of the scissors position
and the employment of an electric vibrator might just be your
pathway to synchronized ecstasy.

was really skeptical about female ejaculation even after
reading all of the information on your site. I guess I
was thinking that it was real, but that only some women

A South African man who shot his pregnant fiancé
dead before killing himself will be posthumously married
to her at the weekend. Police Captain Mohale Ramatseba
said David Masenta shot 25-year-old Mgwanini Molomo after
a quarrel before turning the gun on himself. But Johannesburg's
Sowetan newspaper said family and friends wanted to remember
them as a happy couple destined for a happy life together.
The groom's corpse would be dressed in a cream suit and
his bride's in a gown for the ceremony, at which a priest
in the rural village of Ceres in Limpopo will bless the
union before the two are buried, the Sowetan said. "In
African culture, there is no death -- there is merely
the separation of body and soul," said cultural expert
Mathole Motshekga. "It is also important because the families
are married together." "This does not mean the relationship
has irretrievably broken down."
Feds Defending Gay Marriage In Florida
The U.S. government has asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit
challenging the 8-year-old federal law that bans gay marriage.
Justice Department spokesman Charles Miller said it was
the government's first direct legal defense of the Defense
of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as the union of
one man and one woman and allows states to refuse to recognize
gay marriages from other states.
In
the lawsuit, four same-sex couples argue that the 1996
law is unconstitutional. The Justice Department's motion
to dismiss on Friday argues that the couples have no constitutional
standing to challenge the federal law because they are
not married in any state. ``As far as the federal defendant
is aware, every court to address this question - including
the Supreme Court and the Eleventh Circuit - has rejected
federal constitutional challenges,'' the motion said.
The motion also said the nation's high court has ``defined
the right to marry consistent with traditional understandings.''
The argument by the Justice Department that the couples
have no legal standing is a ``procedural one'' that is
a far cry from defending whether the law violates human
liberties, said Jennifer Pizer, senior staff attorney
for Lambda Legal, a gay rights group. ``The fundamental
right is the right to marry the person of your choice
without the government getting involved there, like a
matchmaker,'' Pizer said. Plaintiffs attorney Ellis Rubin
said he was preparing a response to the motion.

This may be a bit sexist and black and white stereotyping

Made Man Think He Was Dying For 8 Years
A California man who once tested positive for HIV has
learned the diagnosis made eight years ago was a mistake
and he was never infected. Jim Malone spent years battling
depression and losing weight, expecting to die at any
time. He attended support group meetings and accepted
free meals from an AIDS charity. Malone's main physician,
Dr. Richard Karp, acknowledged the error in an Aug. 4
letter to the Department of Veterans Affairs clinic where
Malone was treated. "As his primary care provider, I take
full responsibility," the doctor wrote. Malone said he
is relieved but angry at his doctor. The error may have
occurred because Malone arrived at the clinic in 1996
with lab results from a testing firm showing he had HIV,
however, the clinic performed its own HIV test on Malone
to confirm the first set of results and it came back negative,
but that information was never shared with the patient.
Vote Green For Sex Change
Australia's election campaign took a wacky turn with claims
that Greens party wanted to allow the sale of "party"
drugs, state funding for sex changes and laws to make
people ride bicycles and eat less meat. The small but
influential Greens party rejected a media report which
claimed it would campaign for all that and more during
the run-up to the Oct. 9 election.
"Greens back illegal drugs," Melbourne's Herald Sun tabloid
declared in a headline above some of the most bizarre
policy claims in Australian political history. It reported
the environmentally friendly party wanted to allow the
sale of ecstasy and other illegal drugs. It also said
the Greens wanted sex changes made available under the
Medicare government health scheme, state backing for homosexual
and transgender marriages and Australia's 20 million population
cut by two million.
Opinion polls show minor parties like the Greens and the
Democrats could play a crucial role in a cliff-hanger
election between Prime Minister John Howard's Liberal/National
coalition and center-left opposition Labor. Greens leader
Bob Brown rejected most of the Herald Sun's claims, saying
the report had been concocted after the newspaper contacted
a right-wing think tank that supports Howard.

In Germany, a pair of young lovers annoyed their neighbors
with a noisy sex session that police had to go and ask
them to lower the volume. Officers in the western city
of Essen interrupted the couple shortly after midnight
after neighbors, listening to the sounds through an open
window, called to complain. "Gradually more and more neighbors
gathered in front of the house to investigate the noise,"
said a police spokesman. The embarrassed couple were asked
to close the window and continue at a lower volume, he

pamphlets, produced with government aid, it makes Barcelona
look like a haven for nudists. The mayor says that the
city does not encourage people to "go nude in the street."
"If someone is walking the streets naked, the police will
invite him to get dressed." Barcelona's government said
it respected nudists' rights. The Catalan regional parliament
allows cities to make laws on nudity, and Barcelona has
none, as the pamphlet points out. Nudist groups Addan
and Aleteia signed the fliers, which bore the city department
for women and civil rights logo. "Economic aid was given
to two associations that promote nudism just as other
groups have been subsidized, but this does not mean we
are promoting it," the city spokesman said.
Adultery As A Crime- Punishment More Heavy For Women Offenders
Turkey's
government wants to make adultery a crime, and while the
legislation would apply to men, a previous adultery law
abolished six years ago was used mainly against women.
The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), an Islamist
movement, wants to include the adultery ban to the penal
code. Women's
rights groups are outraged and much controversy regarding
this proposal continues.
