During his many years of clinical practice, Dr. Birch was a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Psychology, a Fellow of the American Marriage and Family Therapy, and a Clinical Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology, and was certified as a Sex Therapist and as a Sex Educator by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

He was also certified as a Family Therapist by the National Academy of Family Therapists. He was an adjunct assistant professor at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and has taught courses as a guest instructor at The Ohio University/Zanesville Branch, Columbus State College, and Dayton University. His expertise in the field has been recognized by the American College of Sexology.
