Silicone
Sex Toy Material
Not
to be confused with Silicon,
which is a completely different substance:
metalloid
chemical.
Silicones
are polymers that contain silicon with carbon, hydrogen, oxygen,
and sometimes other chemical elements. It is flexible, heat-resistant,
nonstick, non-porous and rubber-like without containing any
toxins. Silicone sex toys require little maintenance and can
last a lifetime.

The
fact that silicone is the preferred material of most sex toy consumers,
many sex toy manufacturers have found a way to misrepresent their
products as silicone even if the silicone is a minimal part of the
whole. The issue is that by law, a sex toy needs to contain only 10%
silicone in order to be labeled as a silicone sex toy. The other 90%
of the sex toy can be made of less expensive materials that could
potentially contain toxins, such as phthalates.
If
you are considering purchasing a silicone sex toy, we recommend checking
with the manufacturer on whether or not the product is free of phthalates
or purchasing from a store such as Holistic Wisdom, Inc. that is committed
to offering only nontoxic sexual products. Manufacturers such as Tantus,
Fun Factory and Vibratex offer only high quality, 100% silicone sex
toys that are guaranteed to be nontoxic. See our Silicone
Sex Toys
Example
Silicone is used to make many high quality adult toys. Medical Grade
Silicone is the most reliable, safe, health-smart, soft material used
for sex toys. It is also used for some personal lubricants. Some other
popular uses of silicone range from hair products and cookware to
breast implants and electronic components.
Allergy
Or Toxin Warnings
100% Silicone is phthalate free. Silicone blends may contain toxic
additives. Silicone is hygienic as there are no open pores to harbor
bacteria. Silicone is also hypoallergenic and has no reaction to the
human body; 100% silicone sex toys are completely inert. They don't
alter pH balance, or cause a reaction to the body's natural chemistry.
Cleaning
Recommendations
Silicone is one of the easiest materials to clean due to it's nonporous,
smooth surface. Silicone can be boiled or cleaned with a 10% bleach
solution; they're even dishwasher safe if vibrating unit is removable.
We recommend antibacterial soap or antibacterial sex toy cleaner.
Our 100% medical grade sex toys are completely safe up to 600° F.
Please note that it must be 100% silicone in order for it to be boiled,
bleached, etc. If it is not then sterilizing the sex toy with these
cleaning methods may damage the product.
Lubricants
Waterbased only. Silicone or oil base lubricants may damage this material.
The reason to not use silicone lubricants on silicone sex toys, is
that a silicone lubricant may bond to the toy and ruin it. This isn't
true for ALL silicone sex toys as it depends on the purity of the
silicone sex toy and the purity of the lubricant. If you wish to test
your silicone sex toy with silicone lubricant, use the bottom of the
base and do a test spot. If the area does not become sticky or gummy,
then the silicone lubricant should be compatible.
Recycling
Information
Silicone is a chemically inert substance. This means that there are
no toxic ingredients that can be out gassed, or leached from the substance.
Silicone, itself, is not toxic to aquatic plants or animals nor does
it have a negative effect on soil organisms. Although Silicone is
not biodegradable, it can be recycled.
